Shift boot

Hi..

Looking to see if there's anyone out there that has replaced a shift boot..

I have a F250 88 302 5 speed and I'm in the middle of replacing the clutch etc..

When I took out the shifter by removing the 3 screws off the round boot that was attached to the transmission this part was in pieces when if good should be 1 piece. " Ford calls this part a boot" $45 bucks later. Geezzz. This is what the plastic package on it (ONE 1L2Z-7277-AA BOOT)

This part is between the shifter and round ball. I'm guessing that I need a special tool puller to separate the shifter to put this new part on.

Hopefully there a different way..

thanks for your time in advance.
