I have the 2001- 5.4 motor and was wondering should i use injector cleaner or not and if so , what brand. The reason for asking is with fords suggestion to use only low octane gas in this motor makes it sound like it could damage a componant by using inj. cleaner.
The higher octane fuel is a waste of money. The engine is designed and tuned to run off of 87 octane. If you were to add a chip or reprogram more timing and such into the computer, then you will need a higher octane fuel.
I add a bottle of Outlaw Truck and SUV fuel injector cleaner at every oil change, just to keep things running smoothly. I have seen no adverse effects from it.

PS, your signiture says that your 01 has a 351C in it??
The 5.4L is actually 330ci and is a Windsor built engine.
Just curious,

I use Chevron with Techron Fuel Injector Cleaner in my 2003 F150 at each oil change (2000 mile intervals as I do mostly city driving and only about 8000 miles a year). Used it in my 3 Rangers before the F150, had no problems with injectors failing. I get it at Costco, they sell 4 bottles for something like $10.
