feedback carb vacuum

I have a '85 inline 6 and the vacuum hookups are screwed up bigtime (carb caught on fire). I've tried to hook it back using the vacuum diagram but I'm dumb as dirt apparently. Could someone post a picture or two for me to look at. A picture is worth a thousand words or so they say. I would greatly appreicate.

I can't get a good picture that'll show what you want. But I'll try to explain it. From the vacuum tree on the intake manifold, there should be a line going to the choke pulloff, bimetallic vacuum switch on the air cleaner, MAP sensor, cruise servo, source to the TAB/TAD solenoids at the rear of the valve cover, and a larger hose to the power brake booster. From the port on the carb a line goes to the EGR solenoid (by the TAB/TAD solenoids). Hope that helps.

Thank you sir, I appreicate the answer. One more question, what is the TAB/TAD solenoids and there is two vacuum hookups on the carb, one at the bottom of the carb and one at the top on the front, which lines go there?

On the drivers side at the rear of the valve cover there is a shield over the TAB, TAD, and EGR solenoids. The TAB solenoid controls whether air is pumped into the exhaust or the atmoshere. The TAD solenoid controls whether it is injected downstream or upstream of the oxygen sensor.

As for the line on the front of the carb, it's the fuel bowl vent. It runs to the carbon canister with the bowl vent solenoid inline.

That line should go to the EGR solenoid on the valve cover. Then a line goes from that solenoid to the EGR valve.

If I can jump in, I have a 3rd port: passenger side, top of the carb right below the air cleaner rim. On my truck this is connected to the exhaust manifold. And then there is a hard line that goes to the body of the carb on the passenger side next to the choke: that goes to the amnifold, too.

I'm not vouching for the the legitimacy of these connections; the truck has been messed with so many times and runs so crappy that I'm at wit's end myself.

I dealt with this for two months. My trucks running smooth but backfiring. I don't know if it is vacuum related. I too must be dumb as dirt because there were hundreds of diagram and none for an idiot like me.

About the three solenoids on the valve cover, I was told the TAB/TAD were for that purpose but you needed to have the air pump installed and hooked up (sits above the alternator). I don't, so I didn't know how to connect them. The hard line I think transfers clean air through a tube in the manifold which heats it. This then goes to my choke housing. I can take pictures of mine but I don't know if it will help. I am still learning.

Look, I should say before I get ragged by others, I am a fledgeling mechanic, if that. I am trying to learn on a truck I like. I could pay someone to do it, but I really want to learn. Therefore, my photo probably has several mistakes I made in it. I had this one from when I was trying to sort things out. I have a couple of more, but I can't post them till tonight, I'm playing Mr. Mom with my kids. I hope it helps some.
Also, I don't know how to add it to the post so it is in my gallery.

Warning! The feedback carb is a piece of doo-doo! I myself am coping with numerous problems related to this thing. As for the backfiring, what was causing mine was that the charcoal canister was somehow the culprit. Pull the plug with the vacuum lines out of the top and see how it runs.
