winshield vin tag?

I was just received from a friend of mine a 76 F350 dump with plow, free, but needs much work. My question, this truck has no vin # tag on the winshield, and door tag is painted over/missing. Did this truck ever have a winshield vin # tag? When did they start putting the winshield Vin # tag on the winshield, 73, 80???? I suppose I should start searching the frame for #'s

On the top of the frame rail, pass side between the fire wall and the front axel, you will find the vin.

Sometimes it is under the cab on the pass frame rail also.

Sometimes you can find a tag on the firewall also. Check the bed for a tag also.

76 did not have a dash mounted vin tag. the door tag is your vin tag. you might try cleaning it off paint stripper or a wire brush.
