I think that Whistler makes the top of the line detector, but I know lots of people with the Cobra detectors, and they seem to work fine.
I don't speed so i don't have to worry.
V-1 if I could have one. They are illegal in Virginia.
So when on the interstate I keep the cb on, and occassionally ask where the "bears" are. Sometimes you get the info, sometimes you don't. It's also good to find out about bad weather and traffic problems etc. I typically drive 1K miles a day when heading out west for visits.
Fact: All any RADAR detector tells you is you are within range and are already CAUGHT so save your moiney and never drive over 6 or 7 miles over the speed limit.
Some States outlaw these and the insurance Companies want them outlawed everywhere.

My Whistler paid for itself the first week I had it. Was doing about 45 in a 25 (country road) and it started going crazy, I slowed right down and around the corner about 1/4 mile ahead was 6 state troopers doing a speed trap. So, my point is they do work, not all the time, if you are in the line of site of the cop, you are probably busted, but they can save you some money.
My escort has paid for itself a few times over. Yes I have gotten a few tickets still but sometimes it will pick up the signal from a mile and a half away.
Added bonus. Radar detectors run fairly hot and it stays on even when the truck is off, so my window is rarely fogged and snow and ice come off with the windsheild wipers.
