New guy, new owner here. I bought a 99 XLT flareside with 4.0, 5 speed transmission. Great little truck, enuf power for me, I was driving a suzuki samurai! I ca'n find any info about what the off road package consists of, or if it's just a decal. Any ideas? Good board btw, I've been lurking a few hours. Thanks
Welcome! I am also new here but have been reading this site for a long time. I am far from an expert on Ranger's but figured I give you a reply in case you don't get other answers to your question.
As far as the off road package. On the larger trucks it simply means a skid plate for the transfer case and fuel tank, upgraded shocks, a steering damper, and of course the sticker. I havent' heard anyone complain about the skid plates or the steering damper. Many complain about the shocks but this is for the bigger trucks and we may never get a smooth ride. Having the sticker GUARENTEES that you will NEVER get stuck in snow or mud.
I'm guessing Ford would equip the ranger with similar features.
I'm not into off roading but from what I hear the Ranger is pretty decent. Short wheelbase, high clearance, and I've heard goo things about the engine power.
Yeah, skid plates, there are a bunch under mine, i havent even looked to see what they're protecting. Not sure what else, just thought i'd reply anyway, and by the way, welcom to FTE

Bought my ’99 Ranger XLT Off-Road brand new in December of ’98 and have the brochure to refer from.
The XLT 4x4 Off-Road Group
· 16” 5-spoke Cast Aluminum Wheels
· Buldge Body Shock Absorbers
· P245/75RX16 OWL All-Terrain Tires
· Chrome Bumpers and Grille
· Fog Lamps
· 4x4 Off-Road Decal
· Styled Manual Mirrors
· 4.10 Rear Axle Ratio
· Skid Plates
[Those tires where originally Firestone brand, but due to the recall, I now have Goodyear equivalents. I only have 19.6K on my toy!]
Thanks for all of the quick replies, it's a cool looking truck I bought it with 32X11.50x15 A/T tires on eagle alloy rims. I drive mostly on the beach to go fishing, tho it should do well in the woods as well. Again, great board, I'm still reading.......

I have (i guess) the regular xlt supercab. I dont have ANY 4x4 emblems or stickers. My truck has othing to say it is 4x4. I really wish i had LS rear end. I mean so far it has handled everything i have dished out and asked for more, but i still want LS or lockers in the rear. Mie does have chrome bumpers and grille though.
I have chrome front bumper, rear step bumper, 4.10 8.8 inch rear, flare side bed, fog lamps, and skid plates over the t-case and gas tank. The diff is open, I'd like a locker too, maybe a lock right is in my future.

The torsen was only included in the 2002 FX4 package
(not the regular offroad package)
and the 2003 fx4 level 2.
