Intro ... and some questions!
We've just purchased an F-250 and am enjoying being able to drive around town checking out what everyone has in their backseats. Dang this thing is big!
Anyhow, we'll be buying a snowplow in the next week or so and admittedly, know absolutely nothing about the different brands available. We checked out BOSS today and will be going with an 8 foot blade.
It won't be used commercially - starting a plowing business is *not* on my to-do list. But we've got a huge driveway and some apartment building parking lots we'll need to do - so I don't want to purchase a bottom of the barrel plow either. And since we're up here in the Great Lakes snow belt where lake effect (think HEAVY & WET) snow is the norm, we'll need something pretty meaty, I'd suppose.
So ... hello to everyone! And does anyone have any plow tips for a novice?
I have a 9' Fisher Minute Mount plow on my F-350 and it does a good job, I like there mounting system beter, I have talked to guys that have had several different brands , and Western seems to be a good all-around brand, not quite as heavy as Fisher, it scrapes good (if not better), and the mold-board trips (plow) when you encounter rougher conditions. With a Fisher plow only the lower portion (scraping edge) trips and can be alittle more unforgiving on , lawns, curbs, dirt driveways, and the truck.
There are also Newer plow companies out there, but I have not seen or heard to much about them.

Welcome to the board!
I have a 2000 F250 with a 7'-6" Western Pro. I do not plow commercially, but do have a commercial property we own and a construction company lot (ours) to clear. The Western does great for what little we use it. I will say this about the Western (and don't know much about the others): The mounting bracket hangs exactly 1/2 inch lower than every curb or parking block you will meet. That really pissed me off until I learned not to try to put my front tires against all curbs. I really don't like how low that mount hangs. Like I said, I don't know how the others are, but the Western really limits where you can go with out worrying about hanging up or being jolted to a stop. Keep that in mind over the next few days when you are parking your rig to see if that will be a big problem.
Do they have curbs in Michigan

I never had a problem with my truck when it was stock and ran the X sping (plow package)
