I got a 1970 250 with a 360 in it with stock ignition stuff.
I get power to the coil(works) but I'm not getting a spark??
I got new condenser in it, points are set properly, cap+rotor are fine.... everything is sanded and shiny, batteery is brand new.
What else can be wrong??? I'm at a total loss of ideas of what it could be.... Everthing is there, power is there, components are in decent condition, I'm stumped
Any ideas no matter how little could help, anything... thanks
Make sure you are getting 12V to the BAT terminal on the coil while cranking. Check to see if you have 12V to the points with the points held open. If these tests check out, change out the coil.
Is this something you are trying to fix with these parts or did it happen after you changed the parts. If before, I'd say coil...if this started after then I'd say, put your old condensor back in.
The annoying part about this problem is all the stuff worked and the motor ran like a charm in the parts truck... Now that it's in my highboy after sitting for a year it's just not interested in making a spark for me.
I took the coil+condenser off the motor that was recently running in the truck and tried'em out to see if that was the problem. Still didn't work.
I got my tester motor out and the motor wirred just as fast when hooked to the coil as it did when hooked strait to the battery so I assumed I was getting 12v to the coil.
Its gotta be a picky little thing I missed or am overlooking.
you said the truck has set for a while so the points may just need sanding a little bit. get you some fine sandpaper and stick in between the points and sand them down a little.
then turn the key on and take a screwdriver and break the points and see if there is an arc. if not, the ground on the points could be bad. try loosening the screw a little and move them a little.
