This was mentioned in another thread but I want to ask it in a separate thread to try to get some more responses:
When in 4x4hi, and making a sharp turn, I feel very pronounced and severe "binding" in the front end. The truck even seems to "bounce" while turning. This occurs on pavement (in a parking lot).
Has anyone else experienced this? (I know Monsta has). Does it sound normal? I am affraid to use the 4x4 in an actual real-live 4x4 scenario (off road) until this is resolved.
Thanks,

You will usually get that only on dry payvement, when you "should" be in 2 hi. As long as there is no bind when on loose traction areas ie. snow, mud, dirt, it is most likely a "normal" thing.

I guess what I should do now is to try it off road to see if it repeats.
Thanks!

My chebbies and my older fords did it, I really can't remember if my newer ones do it. Maybe later today when I actually leave the house (holiday and all) I will lock em and see.
Yes they do that it's they way they are it normal. Some might say that your universals aren't broke in yet, but I have found that they will always do it. The lighter duty trucks with A-arm suspension like the chevy's and f-150 have CV joints instead of U joints and they can handle a greater angle before binding but are less durable with a lot of weight on the truck...It sure is annoying though isn't it...
You have the hubs locked and the transfercase in 4 hi? The 4wd on our trucks is not meant to be used on dry pavement. There is no center diff and you are destroying the drivetrain and tires by doing so.
Don't be doin that,,Your gonna be in the shop, fixin it,,!! 4X4 is intended to be ingaged in slippery conditions so the drivetrain can releive windup, ( spin when it needs too) , on dry pavement there is no way "wind-up" can be releived and your going to break something in the drive train !!
I had a 76' F-250, and when plowing it would bind up now and then, and one of those times it popped off a axel u-joint cap , now I had a good repair bill to fix it. (and that was in snow)
