Battery drain after tach install

My friend installed my tach for the very reason I $%$% electrical things when it comes to wireing.He put the tach in and it works great exept the display light on the tach will not go off with the key-What the $%^$???? and thier is a SEVER battery dain now When we started the truck after install the tach it was A WEE bit slower in turning over and I went to go start it 15 minutes later and the chattering of a dead battery so I justed it with my 86 and went to his house-a 10 minute drive and pulled in from of his truck and nothing but a dead batteryI got a jump and took thr battery to O'reily's and they tested it and It was DEAD BUT it took a charge.??????IMy alt was tested 3 months ago, new starter,3 month old battery

It sounds to me like he wired the tach wrong. there are usually 4 wires for a tach. black=ground, red=12v ign power, white= lights, green= coil. it sounds as if he wired the white or light wire to a non-switched power lead. good luck
