98 F-150 5.4 EOD; I have a problem, I hit a piece of junk in the road today. It damaged the transmission oil pan and broke off the tranny filter. I immediately went to my mechanic and pulled the pan, bent it back out, and replaced the filter. When I pulled into the mechanic's, I could only shift between neutral and reverse. After repairing everything, I still can't shift beyond anything but reverse and neutral. There seems to be a couple of "dogs" at the back end of the transmission stopping the shifting to any other gears. Anybody got any ideas?
Hi and welcome to FTE
I would pull the pan again and inspect the internal linkage. It may be bent. The valvebody may also be damaged.
Unhook the outside linkage (coing from the shifter) and see if you can shift the tranny by hand. If so, then the external linkage could be bent or out of a bushing somewhere.
