Gauges

Since I have had another motor put in, I'm thinking about putting in mechanical gauges in my 1990 f150. My last motor I had fried when it wasn't getting enough oil. The gauge was all over the place. It would start out fine, then it would go up and down. I asked several people who I thought knew what they were talking about, and they said it was the gauge. Come to find out, my motor was not getting enough oil and fried! Even though it wasn't the gauges, I've been told to put in mechanical ones for my oil and water. Any advise, and how hard is it to do?

I would recommend using an electric type gauges that still gives you the proper working PSI rating.

The advantage of using the electric type is that you are not using a little bitty tube from the sensor to the gauge and that might break and squirt oil or water all over the place.

Couldn't agree more with a set of after-market electric gauges. The OEM oil/temp gauges on my 1988 F-250 became sporadic after a while - bad enough to ask the dealer how to fix. Their answer was over $400 to fix. Instead I had some after-market gauges installed (electric, as I did not want the actual tubes of oil and coolant running around to gauges either). The AutoMeter gauges cost one-half of what the repaired OEM gauges would have cost and they give you real numbers to watch too. Just have to figure out where to put them unless you want to do major dash work.

Thanks again! Your right, I was looking and trying to find a place to put them. Under the dash looks like the only place, but you can't really see them too good. Any ideas?
