Having my oil changed at the dealer today cause i get 2yrs worth of free oil changes. Question is, will they check the oil for diesel fuel when doing the work, and can they test it or does it have to be sent out for lab work, and if so, where in northern texas do you send it???
good point....so often my client's that have these plans get in the habit of not checking anything themselves, which would not be bad if they came in every 500-600 miles so I could ck for them. These basic things have to be checked so you know whats goin on with your truck! Especially with all the concerns out there right now.
i see that alot on my side where the guy whose driving the truck doesnt own it and therefore doesnt give a crap until somethings broke. Then there boss or the guy that owns the truck gets irrate because his brand truck has lost an engine because the driver forgot to check the oil and he has to pay the bill.
For those of us that do check our trucks(Take care of it and it will take care of you) my 03X Built 01/03 has had this strong scent from early on. My former dealers service writer blew me off and said "as oily as diesel is it won't hurt it." Uh Huh..Ive got30000 miles on this and couldn't help but believe that internally this had to be a major issue. My oil still smells but now its dropped off the stick.1500 miles since last oil change and it took two quarts to get it on the stick. Check it often, I'm comparing the smell and apperance to that of my 7.3s I would assume they should be similar.
hehehe, that service writer doesnt know doo-doo. Ask him if hes ever seen a diesel "run away". Ive seen a couple. Isnt pretty, but impressive to say the least. The times ive seen them "run away" was after a turbo blew and put alot of oil in the intake system. The tech didnt get all the oil out of the intake and charge air cooler and cranked her up. She ran fine for a few secs then started running on oil and her own her oil too. She had to have been turning over 7k rpms, LOUD as heck, turbo screaming and glowing red, we tried to choke her down but it was over we had to RUN away and let her come down on her on. She did! 3 pistons and a cylinder head later she ran fine. Quite a site to say the least and a sound ill never forget.
every bit as bad as an uninformed client, "the know it all"service writer....sad part is all the info Ford provides if the writer would just take the time to investigate....sad.
I guess then once an injector does start to leak that its not just a few drops here and there, its gonna be alot and you should definately be able to smell it.I do check my oil weekly since i ve bought the truck and there is no definate smell of diesel so i guess im ok so far. Thanks alot guys and were all glad your here to help. Hey andy, any word on the spring flash???

local ford dealer sent a cupon with thier survey, 9.99 oil change. they forgot to put the disclaimer for gas engines only. so i got a diesel oil change for 10.41 after tax. they were alittle pissed but hey, i save around 50.00.
The guy who did my financing was new back in sept. when i got the truck and signed an agreement with me for 2 yrs. free oil changes based on 5k mile intervals. He didnt no that it was supposed to be for gas engines only!!! I bet i save close to 500 bucks on that deal!!!YEEEEEEHAWWWWW
The dealership where I bought my truck is giving LIFETIME oil changes every 5000 miles on all diesels bought there. When I took mine in the first time I was in and out in 30 - 45 minutes.
