Rear axle interchangibility

Will a 9" rear axle complete springs & all out of a 1976 F 100 transplant into a 1985 F 150 that had a 9" ratios are the same, I was just going to change the carrier / axles cause the splines are different the wheel bearings are also different tapered on the 85 roller on the 76. Everything looks cool spring spacing spring length etc. I have the 76 axle in hand and it has a new ring and pinion and a lock rite locker installed. If anyone has done this please tell me what I'm getting into.

You can swap the whole axle down to 73-72 I believe. The perches should be the same, but save yourself some trouble and measure the perches.

Also, the other difference is that _generally_ the axleshafts in the 79 and older are only 28 spline and not 31 like the 80-86.

73-96 F100/F150, 78-96 Bronco rear axles have the same width, spring, and shock mounts. U-joint size may be different.
