transfer case hose

I have a 1988 F-150 with a ZF tranny and a borg Warner 13-56 4X4 transfer case. lately I had the transfer case off of it and noticed a rubber hose connected to the front of the transfer case, I also see his hose illistrated in the manual diagrams, but I can't tell where it goes. does anyone know where this hose leads? or what the purpose of it is?

Most likely a vent tube.

Yup - I think its a vent tube also. Mine fits in a notch near the shift lever on the auto trans. There should be some kind of loose plug in the end to keep dirt out. If you can't find anyplace to put it wire it above the case somewhere. You probably DON'T want to get any water in there. Chris
