Some of you might remember that I posted in a couple of battery related threads made by other user's, stating that I had charging/battery problems.
Well,
my 1980 f150 still isnt charging. the alternator is good, the voltage reg is brand new, 5 th battery, and i dont know what to do. Can a starter solenoid cause it not to charge?
with the battery sitting and the truck off, im getting about 12.85 volts, when i start the truck and measure the battery i can sit and watch the battery drain .01 volts every few seconds
The multi-purpose starter solenoid provides an attachment for a few power related needs.
The power being generated by the Alternator/ Voltage regulator
heads for the BIG thread stud on the solenoid.
It is basically a meeting place for all that needs power.
It shouldn't be causing any trouble when it comes to charging.
When are you making this measurements?
Have you done a complete testing series of the charging system?
To check for sure of the charging system, the engine has to rev at least as high as 800 RPM.This allows for the voltage regulator to "kick in" and provide more current to the system.
we have it fixed, on the voltage reg, there are 4 tabs, my wiring harness aonly used four, and i had the choke wire coming off the alternator just dangling, for no real reason i we put the choke wire on the top tab(the one not being used, put the harness on and BAM, it was charging like a champ, no problems since
