Have you had any success? I've been looking for a camper shell for my '95 Ford F150, but I was shocked at the cost of new shells. I just started hitting the used car lots, which seem to be the best bet so far - many of them strip off the shells since they don't add anything to the value.
I too would be interested in finding out if anyone has had success using another make/model's camper shell on my truck.
If you would measure the distance INSIDE TO INSIDE between the sides at the front and rear of your bed you will see if it is square or tapered. If they are both the same your bed is squared, if not it is tapered. Also measure the distance from the inside edge of the front of your bed to the OUTSIDE edge of the top of the tailgate, take those measurements and measure the potential cap from INSIDE TO INSIDE width front and back and INSIDE EDGE of front "ledge" to the rubber flap that rests on the outside of the tailgate for the length. The older trucks I believe have a rectangular bed but the newer, as I posted before, I THINK are tapered.
i bought a cap at a auction once, it was a high roof 8' full-size truck cap, fiberglass. paid 300 for it, i think. well, we went to put it on and uh-oh, the cap came off a 82 f150, i was putting it on a 92 c2500 chevy, the box tapers front to rear and bottom to top, so we ended up using 1x4 oak to take up the differance in dimensions. it worked well, i had the truck for 5 years and didnt have any problems (with the cap anyway, the g.m chassis is another story) the bottomline: if you go used, make shure you know your measurements.
