Team,
Did a search for undercoating, only found one of relevance from wheelMA1; his advice is "have someone else do it". I tend to agree, so I checked at the local here and it was $175.
Have had the truck for almost 4 years (our anniversary is coming up, think I will take her out for a drive through the snow) and plan to keep her for a long time. Should I get the undercoat? If yes, how, who, and how much should it be? Plan on being in high snow (salt) areas if this helps form an opinion. Thanks in advance for the help.
You must be carefull when you use undercoating on your wheelwells. Over time the undercoating can crack allowing water to seep behind the undercoating and thus starting the rust process to begin. If you do apply undercoating, apply only a thin layer. I assumed that with newer vehicles the days of undercoating were over. (better metals, so I was told.) Anyone hear the same thing?
The only ONLY stuff to get is a mineral oil based product not that black crap. I think its an oily brown stuff that you want. The underneath has to be fairly clean.. Look here

I think you can't go wrong with undercoating a vehicle. The too thick arguement may be true, but today's trucks are still suseptible to rusting, especially in the salt-belt called the midwest. I'm seeing alot of '92-'96 model style trucks that have rotten rear quarters above the wheel wells. Rust never sleeps, and I've found undercoating to be well worth the time and money.
