I ran my (96) old 150 that way for two years sound was great and I did nit notice any loss of power. I had planed to do this to my F250 when the 36,000 mile point has pased.
On my previous 01 V10 Excursion I had a K&N filter and a straight thru MagnaFlow and gained .2-.4 MPG on the freeway. What surprised me the most was that it had a better acceleration which I was not really expecting since I was really after better gas mileage. .2-.4 mpg increase did not really justify the cost on the muffler and installation but it sure did put a smile on my face. As for the sound, you can barely tell even when you're sitting in the back and that was with the 14" muffler. If you wanna delete the muffler I'd say go for it. V10 does not rumble like the V8s does and if your not happy with the sound then you can always add a straight thru muffler.
Ihave a v10 without a muffler ,, sounds good at an idle and low RPM's ,, but when you stand on it barks LOUD ,, on the interstate it is louder but I can live with it fine ... PS some of my coworkers hate it when I jump on it leaving work because of the different sound a v10 makes ( winnies like a cotch rocket , will rattle the windows and turn heads ) Fred
If anything it seems to have picked up some power in the bottom end. Could be it just sounds like it! All in all it is an improvement not a loss. I should also note that it seems to run smoother than it used to. These could be attributed to a bad muffler that was removed, it did rattle.
