I want to put a remote starter on my 99 expy EB but the dealer told me I would have to go aftermarket, I don't want two remotes for the truck, one to start it and one to unlock the doors... anybody know any hints????
Usually the remote for the remote starter system will also have a provision for the remote activation of the door locks. Funny that your dealer shooed you away, as Ford recentlly entered the remote starter market by offering systems manufactured by Code Alarm as a dealer accessory.
OTO, I'm sure that a good car stereo installer has more experience putting one in than the average dealership, so perhaps he is doing you a favor.
I have a remote starter on my 1999 (manufactured by Astroflex)that has the door locks and starter all on one remote.
I have an after market that I installed myself, replaced the factory control, still kept all the functionality of the factory remote but added the remote start feature.
It is very handy in Indiana!
I purchased the Ford Bypass for the ignition recognition ($25) and the entire remote start system for $60 on Ebay. Total cost of $85. The Ford version was about $225. It took me about 4 hours to do the install. If I did it again today, I expect it would take about 2 hours.
