72 Custom column shifter keeps locking up and I am thinking of installing floor shifter. I would like suggestions on what brand floor shifter to convert to.
look in the yards for a floor shifter off of a grenada or monarch or maveric with the three speed, the factory ford shifters are hard to beat unless of corse its a new hurst. get everything from the levers to the **** and it will work as long as you have the "long" tailshaft housing with mounting holes. if you don't you may have to adapt or make a bracket to hold it. or another option would be to change the tailshaft and housing but then you have driveline issues and other stuff. hope this info helps ya out.
one thing I forgot to mention... the handle out of the car may not be long enough or have the right bend, but you can get one to fit the late 70's and early 80's ford trucks and they should fit the shifter.
then all you would need is a boot from a "OD" equiped truck or one for a 4x4 the little oval one and cut the hole in the same place those trucks have and it should be a go.
