well, like the topic says i'm new to the explorer, i'm more into the old muscle and import cars seeing that my friends and i often work on them, but, seeing that my first car will have to be an explorer for a while before i can purchase my own car, i was wondering where i can get good performance parts at a reasonable price, it will be given back to my dad after i can afford my own car and i want it to be more powerful and fun to drive when he gets it back, thanks for any and all help!
What year X do you have? What motor? 4x2? 4x4?
A good place to start is at http://www.explorerexpress.com
They have a lot offer the Explorer. Check it out.
For the 4.0's you won't find a lot of performace parts, unless you get into some of the stuff made for Rangers. I know there is more out there for the 4.0 than the 3.0 in Rangers, but there is nothing close to what is available for the 5.0.
What type of performance are you looking for - bolt ons, or something more drastic...
wish i could say something drastic, but i will not be driving this car too long, seeing i will be buying my own after i give it back to my dad, i am looking for some light mods, but if i feel the need maybe i'll replace the internals and if there's a turbo or supercharger for the '92 i'd definetely get one, just gotta have some power while i'm driving it
On the 4.0's, I woud suggest doing an exhaust, open air filter (KKM, K&N, or MAC), and getting a Diablo chip. Those three things will get you more for the money than any of the other things you can do.
The Diablo will make more power than any of the other things you could do. Talk to Ken in the Computer Forum and he can advise you on which one to get. I advise the Diablo over the other brands. I've had them all - and the Diabloo yields the best power.
Yes - and No. Its kind of the same situation as adding a supercharger (except you don't see as much power as a s/c) - if you were to drive it right and TRY to get better gas mileage - you'll get some. But most of the time you play with it because of the extra power, and you burn more doing it....
Drive like you normally would, and you will not see a real gain in mpg, but the additional power makes your engine feel so much stronger.
i am going to buy an intake for my truck i have talked to people on ebay and they said they love it for incressed power gas millage and the sound it makes
