How long for computer codes?

How long for computer codes?
I was just wondering how long computer codes stay in the computer? I had the O/D light flash on a friday afternoon and monday morning they couldnt pull a code out of the truck and i could not get the truck to flash again. They ended up putting a new tranny in the truck but i would have thought that the code would have stayed in memory longer?????

How long for computer codes?
I think sometimes the computers in these trucks do more harm than good. I would like to go back to the days when you had to troubleshoot a vehicle not just plug it in to a computer and have IT tell you whats wrong.
