Question Vibration / Turbo Bracket

I would like to clarify the vibration felt from this turbo droan that FMC is working on a fix for. I feel a buzzing vibration in the steering wheel and hear a slight moaning sound from the engine starting at 1500 rpm. This I am pretty sure is the droan. At about 1700-1800 rpm, the moaning noise stops and the vibration in the steering wheel gets worse. Instead of a buzzing vibration it feels like a gas motor running down a cylinder. I have had it back to the dealer twice. They checked tires and rims and said everything was normal. At first they said they had never heard of anyone with this problem. Now they are convinced it is the turbo droan and want me to wait for the FMC fix. Has anyone else felt the vibration(s) I have tried to describe above? Has anyone heard the status of the new turbo bracket FMC is working on? Are the 04/04 trucks having this problem? Mine is a 04/03.

Thanks,

Rich

The problem you are talking about is the turbo mont. I think the 04's have a counter measure for the problem. If you dont complain about it, thier most likely want be a recall. The best thing to do is contact your Ford reginal rep. I have the same problem other than my steering wheel doesnt viberate. I can hear it and feel it in the floor board.
Let me know if you have any luck with a fix.

Cravenc,

My concern is that I have two different vibrations. It may be something else causing my steering wheel to vibrate. I have not been able to tell from other threads the severity of this turbo mount vibration. If it is the turbo mount, I am also concerned that this is a limited problem on the 03's that has been fixed on the 04's and there is not much insentive for FMC to spend time and money to fix.

My 6.0 with I believe is a May 03' build date suffers from this same vibration. Besides during acceleration it is also very terrible at an idle while stopped and in drive with your foot on the brake. The dealer has also told me that FMC is working on a new turbo bracket to fix this. I am very disappointed with the overall performance of this vehicle with a $45,000 sticker price. from the stalling, vibrations and worst of all, the excessive fumes inside the cab that the dealer tells me is normal. I have been in numerous other diesel vehicles that do not have this problem with diesel odor inside the cab!!

My truck is a '04 Model with a 10/03 Build date with a '04 Engine with a 30/Sept/03 build. Between 60 and 65 +/- mph (1700-1800 rpm) a high rpm vibration and noise begins, increases and cresendos and then decrease with this range. It is annoying since a lot of driving is done within this range. I have found myself tending to drive below or most often above this range to avoid the annoyance. I am waiting on the late Jan. flash in hopes that this as well as the power and fuel issues will be fixed with this flash.

jorzac, be firm but factual with this dealer. I have an April 03 build vehicle and has the drone. I don't think it is the turbo bracket that makes the problem you describe with your foot on the brake.
Mine does not stall nor does it have any diesel fumes in the cab. The diesel fumes could be dangerous. If your service writer doesn't give you satisfaction, meet with the Service Manager and the Technical manager. then meet with the General Manager and ask for a meeting with the Ford Area Service person. Then call the Ford Customer Relations. All this is in your owner manual.

Be factual, keep good notes.

ODOMETER reading at time of problem is critical.
Go to this thread, read completely…. and post.
In addition, please read more instructions, bottom of first page, posted by Tim L
Tell as many as you can about this thread.
The simpler the writing (posting) of “problem/odometer” reading………….the easier it will be to collate. Do not need many words. I must reduce all the date into a usable format; extra words will take more time to complete.

Jorzac, I also have the vibration on acceleration. My dealer determined that was a driveshaft problem. They replaced the carrier bearing bracket. The wrong one was installed at the factory. The new one was over 1" lower. The problem is about 90% better than it was. At least during day to day driving. I have not had a chance to try it towing yet. They are going to try shimming to get rid of the rest, but I want to test it towing first.

TO T.L - My current odometer reading is 3900 miles. Mentioned the warped exaust manifold issues that I read about on a thread to the service manager. He said he has never heard of this and said he would check with FMC. Called me back and said they were unaware of such issues. If I could get rid of the fumes and vibrations, could deal with the rest of it. As far as the Oct. flash is concerned, I noticed low end power loss right away. Went right back to the dealer and mentioned this to the service manager. He replied that it was suppose to improve low end poweralong with the idle issues. I have a grinding noise in the front end when in 4 wheel drive. Have not had it to the dealer yet for this.
