Both front and rear are pitted bad and now leaking on a 88 F-250. Appears that they started leaking near the metal band/strap (dissimilar metals ionic pitting? whatever).
How long does it take to replace the tanks?
I'm going to cut the bolts holding the bed on and lift off with a tractor. Going to POR-15 the rear part of the frame while the beds off and tanks are removed as well.
Whats a fair price to pay for the fuel tanks? Is it worth seeking out used parts? I'm going to pull the tanks first and shop for parts second so I have a few weeks. Thanks for any info.
I have not bought tanks recently, but I replaced both in my '91 when I had it. As I recall, they weren't that expensive, being a popular item. I think I bought them through NAPA, but you will have time to shop around, like you said. I would not waste my time with used tanks. Around here, the junkyards don't sell them, anyway.
