I took off the upper intake manifold on a '99 Mazda B-2500. I replaced the gasket as well as the two spark plugs and wires that were covered by the manifold. To take off the manifold I also had to remove the EGR valve, so to save me work in the future I replaced that gasket. The Haynes manual said to tighten the manifold bolts anywhere from 62-88 inch pounds, so I got one of those cheap torque wrenches, the ones with a metal rod that points to a graduated plate, and I tightened them. Only, 88 inch pounds is fairly weak, I was conerned that the wrench wasn't accurate (the guy at the auto store said it sucks) and I tightened them to 100 inch pounds, and of course I did a second round on the bolts afterwards.
Now I am getting a vibration in the accelerator peddle during mid to high rpm's, this has never occured in this truck, what could this be it also feels as if the truck lossed a little power, but if so its so small that I cannot confirm that 100%?
P.S. I also overtightened the bolts on the EGR valve, probably by a lot, not sure becuase I forgot to use the torque wrench.
I think I may have figured out what is causing a vibration in the accelerator peddle during hard acceleration; when I re-installed the manifold I lost a bolt that was part of a pair, that anchored the accelerator linkage to the manifold. What is the consensus, could this be the answer? I did however install the remaining bolt tighter then normal and I checked the achorage and there was no movement.
