poblems when cold
my 78 150 runs alright when it is warm, but i left it outside in the cold (below zero-20 degrees) for a couple of days. it starts up fine and idles, but after a minute or so it starts to sputter and run rough. when i give it more gas it sputters a lot and takes a while to clear out. once it drops back down to an idle it gradually loads up again and i have to clear it out again. it only seems to do this when it has been left in the cold for a night or a coupole of days. i can smell gasoline in the exaust smoke. what is wrong

my 83 used to do that (3.8 V6) but then i tuned it up (plugs, cap, rotor, wires, air cleaner) after that i realized that she was runnin rich (gas in exhaust) so i turned it down a little. now she runs perfect for havin 177,000. hope this helps

Check the choke pull-off.
