oil problems

I have seen other topics on this, but I will ask anyway. Here is my problem...

I recently bought my 82 f150. It has a 300. I took it down to get the emissions done, and it took the guy two days. He told me that he had to disconnect the egr valve to get it to pass. The oil has moisture in it, and there is a tannish sludge around the filler cap. Also, there is a hose (pcv?) that connects the filler cap to the air cleaner, and there is oil being forced up into the filter. I went ahead and changed the oil, and also used a bottle of "engine flush" that smelled alot like kerosene. I have also noticed that the engine temp almost never gets above cold. I am no mechanic, but I am guessing that there is something wrong with the thermostat, and also am taking the mechanics word that the egr needs replaced. I guess my question is: Does all of this make sense to anyone, and will fixing these two things help my problem?

My 85 does the same thing my truck after idleing in traffic runs a 140 and has a light sludge at the bottom of my dipstick and in the same emissons tube you pvc runs from the carb to the very back of the valve cover to pvc valve . I have been told cracked head block etc. I would put a manual guage and have your engine compression tested . As for a an egr valve i have always bypassed them. I have had this problem like five months and still miffed.
