hello to all.. i have a 97 f-150 2wd V6 5 speed with 118,000 miles on the clock. the problem is that when the truck is cold everything is fine.. but after it warms if it idles very high. if u step on the clutch .. it jumps to 1500 rpms. when it suppose to be around 500 rpms. sometimes it goes down to the correct idle but most of the times it stays at 1000 to 1500 rpms. i replaced the throttle position sensor thinking that it might be sticking but it didnt fix the problem.. ppppplllllleeeeeeaaaaaaaassssseee heellllp mmmeeee
Does the check engine light ever come on? Does it idle rough?
Taking the truck and getting it scanned for codes would be a good idea. Chances are pretty good that your IAC is sticking and needs to be replaced but getting it scanned might rule out other things or lead you in the right direction. You could also have a vacuum leak.
hello thanks for you reply.. the check engine light is on and yes it does has a rough idle.. i put it on a scanner not too long ago with a bad hesatation but it told me the mass air flow sensor... the hesetation was bad like taking off in the wrong gear.. but now it doesnt do that anymore it just idles high.. thanks for listening.
A bad MAF wont make it idle high but a vacuum leak can make it idle high and rough and set a code for the MAF. I think the first thing to do would be get it scanned and see what code turned on the light. Then start checking for vacuum leaks.
