Pyrometer Info

Thought I would share some info on the pyrometer tip on the sensor. I removed my gauges from my truck.Thinking I am going to buy a 6.0 liter or a newer 7.3. Anyway the tip looked like brand new after about 50,000 miles. It barely even had any soot on it or discoloration. I saw several posts about worrying about the tip coming off or what ever. Just thought you might like to know. I had it mounted in the left exhaust manifold.

That's good information. I've wondered about that, and now that I've heard your report, I have to assume that the high temps it's exposed to have a way of keeping it clean, like a self-cleaning oven.

An accurate analogy.

Heavy smokers (the truck that is) will get a build-up on the probe that will eventually effect the accuracy of the gauge, but it can be cleaned with a wire brush and reused. Inconel (the material the probe is constructed from) is extremely durable in high heat applications.
