went to start the truck to warm it up for the wife this am and it took me 6 cycles of key on- key off to get it to start. is this normal? not REAL cold here but just wondering if glow plugs are not getting hot enough. is there anything i can check?
Sounds like the glow plug relay is shot or you have one or more bad glow plugs. Look by the oil filter for the block heater and follow the cord to the front of the truck. The plug is usually buried behind the front bumper on the driver's side.
I agree with powerstroker, sounds to me like your relay is going south. This happened to me as well and after I replaced it it would start on the first shot.
go to a local international dealer and save yourself a boatload of money on the same exact parts that you would get a your local ford dealer. glow plug relay is a breeze to replace
Go through the trouble shooting procedure in the shop manual. I bet it is one or more plugs rather than the relay. Another thing to check is the return lines for leakage.
