Seperation of Church anf State

Does Christmas not apply? Is getting off for Christmas, if only for one day, not violating this oh-so-cherished Liberal rule? What about Easter? Shouldn't the Libs be crying foul? Or does it ot apply here because they get time off from work because of them? I am crying foul now. They only (edit) about it when it does not BENEFIT them directly, with immediate results. Ten commandments in a courtroom, I feel it does help to benefit human kind, slightly, in the long run. But no immediate effect. But with X-mas or Easter, the time off of work is immediately apperant.
Jimmy.

Equal opportunity. Make them all work or give them all the day off. Can't discriminate on the basis of religion or lack thereof, and for good reason.

But it just goes to show you, you might have and enjoy the day off but you don't have to like the reason why.

But you would think non believers would want to work as a matter of principle. But why do non believers get enjoy a day off work while believers have to be silent about their faith in the work place? How does one talking about their faith or displaying a cross or nativity scene translate into congress making a law establishing a religion? Doesn't that go against the "prohibit the free excercise thereof" part?

Here? So early? I'm a morning person.

I don't know what part of the country you live in but here it's only 6:30 am.

Most chuches don't start until later. Some chruches hold their services on Saturday. And why do you care what I do on Sunday?

dunno if i am a believer.i do know there is no such thing as separation of church and state.that phrase is just something that was made up over the years.it is used against christians all the time though.as far as christams and easter they are closer to pagan holidays than christian.

Seperation of church and state is mentioned NOWHERE in any legislative document. The "idea" was first used by Thomas Jefferson as he spoke to Baptists. He used it as a way of protecting Christians' rights. Seperation of Church and state was to "limit the power of the government to prohibit or interfere with those expressions (christian).” In actuality, if you want to follow this "idea" in the way it was originally intended, you would have to believe that the exercise of religion was a God given right and can not be regulated by government at all.
Now, I know that you some of you aren't going to believe that "it is a God-given right", but I just wrote this to show you that Jefferson was using the seperation of church as a way of allowing Christian expressions in any way. So, the way you are using the term "Seperation of Church" and state is incorrect.

Haven't you ever heard of evening services. My church has those, and so do some of the catholic churches around me.

By following the ten commandments, you have already coverd almost everything that needs to be. Most good upstanding citizens already follow number 5-10. I am not saying that everyone has to abide by 1-5, but I do, since I believe in God.

ONE: 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'

TWO: 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.'

THREE: 'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.'

FOUR: 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'

FIVE: 'Honor your father and your mother.'

SIX: 'You shall not murder.'

SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery.'

EIGHT: 'You shall not steal.'

NINE: 'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'

TEN: 'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'
