rust-free chrome wheels?

Hello. I heard somewhere that if I apply polyurethane to chrome wheels that it would seal them and they wouldn't rust. is this true? has anyone tried this?

I just put some chrome steel wheels on my truck.
I havent heard of anyway to do that other than what I did. After I washed the truck and wheels very well and all I waxed the wheels with a soft cloth and a polish that doesnt use grit to clean it.. a spay wax or a cream. wax and polish the wheels good. Keep check on them and depending on driving habbits clean them everyweek.
With just some car wash...no chemicals. use a sponge.
You will want to stay on top of them because if you get behind and the brake dust sits and it will be hard to get off. Never use an abrasive spong or brush. steel wool, bristle brushes..a big No No.

I have to clean mine about everyweek depending on how much I drive that week.

I would NOT use polyurethane. It tends to yellow with time.

I think the only sure way to keep chrome looking good is to keep a good polish or wax on them.

POR makes a clear product for chrome, forgot name but it is originaly designed for use on marine chrome and it now has been found to work well on auto. I painted the front and the rear of my rims about 2 yrs ago and i have no rust problems. Haven't even waxed them.I also took and sprayed the back sides of my bumpers that had some surface rust and it hasen't shown any signs of rust yet. Hope this helps.

Zoop seal is pricey about $100.....but one application protects chrome..aluminum...and brass for 2-3 years. One application is enough to do 4 wheels and have a bit left over....

I agree with the "keep brake" dust off, and that requires constant attention. I have original chromies on my '84 and they still look like new. I use the same silicone on them that I use on the tires. Off-post but anyone know where I can buy a center hub for a chrome wheel. One with the red center and gold bar epoxied in it, many of those wheels sold. I lost one. Came un-glued.

I have chrome wheels on my truck. They have been on there for many, many years. They aren't aven beginning to rust. I just wax them once in a while with NuFinish.
