NHTSA ISSUES EARLY WARNING REPORTING RULE
materials that may signal safety-related defect problems. All manufacturers of motor
vehicles and equipment must provide NHTSA with notice of fatalities that are alleged
or proven to be the result of defects. The rule also requires vehicle manufacturers
and large volume tire manufacturers to supply NHTSA with information about injuries,
property damage, consumer complaints, warranty claims, field reports and production
data on a set time schedule. However, equipment manufacturers need only supply this
information if there is a defect problem. Details: Stuart Gosswein or Brian Caudill
