I've noticed that my wife's Ex seems to be quicker out of the hole than my 97, but it pings under hard acceleration. I am assuming that her timing is more agessive than mine, cause I know it makes a world of difference in power, even a couple of degrees. I know Steeda makes a plate to adjust the timing on mod motors, to move the sensor. My question is, can you change (advance) the timing on a 5.0 (coil packs) without an aftermarket add on? I would like to dial hers back and mine up.

I have not really gotten too deep on the timing yet - but from what I was told about the Explorer 302's, if you adjust it you will have problems with the computer. I have mine adjusted through my MSD DIS 4 box - but I don't have any hard numbers on what is has done or gains from it (it only has dip switches)...
