Remote Control Issue

I have a 1999 ford explorer My father gave me a extra remote That he had used for his 1999 explorer sport. Can I use the remote for my truck now. I was wondering is there someway reprogram the remote.

if there isn't any computer chip in the key there will be instrutions in your owner's manual.

Turn your ignition rapidly from "off" to "on" until your door locks "cycle" (lock and unlock). With the key left in the "on" position and within 5 seconds of the cycle, press any key on EACH of the remotes. The doors shiuld lock and unlock with each button you push (press only one button on each remote). A this point, both remotes should now be programmed to your vehicle.
