can anyone help me settle an argument with a friend of mine about how many cams there are in these engines?

i told him that there is only 1 cam in each... if either had 3-4 valves, then they would have to be DOHC. he says that if it's SOHC then it has 2 cams, 1 for each head; and if it's DOHC, then it's 2 cams/head.
96 4.0 1 camshaft, traditional location in the block
00 5.4 is also 1 camshaft located in the head.
The terms SOHC and DOHC can both be looked at as being correct, as there is only ONE cam per head (SOHC) but since there are 2 heads on a V block engine, technically there are TWO cams overall (DOHC), also, the new 3 valve Triton engines still only use one camshaft per head
Personally I refer to them as a SOHC also, one cam per head, same as the old 427SOHC, but you will run into people using the arguement that since it has 2 cams its a DOHC, I guess its all in how you look at it
