Hi, welcome to FTE!

You don't have one. You have what is called a fill hole. Basically, a threaded plug on the side of the tranny screws into it, (you have to get underneath to see it). You fill it with oil till it comes to the bottom of the hole, then replace the plug.

General conversation forum isn't the best place to ask though. Try looking around the other forums on this site and be sure to check out the search feature..

Hello-

Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts! The Internet's leading Ford TRUCK and SUV Resource!
This thread has been moved from General Converstion forum.
Unfortunately no truck tech questions are allowed there. Please scan down the list of available forums and place your topic in the most specific forum you can find, -fairly simple to do and just takes a moment.
Please take the time to read the headings and notices in each forum. The FTE board is HUGE! We want users to be able to find answers to their questions so it is organized into many areas and search tools are provided.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact a moderator.
Please (show) turn on your email function. Users do not have access to your actual email address.

Yeah most manuals have a fill hole/plug on the side of the tranny. It is usually about 1/3 to 1/2 the way up from the bottom and usually is the only thing that looks like it. There may also be a similar plug on your differential.

Usually it is a threaded plug about 1 inch in diameter with usually a square 3/8 hole in it. A 3/8 ratchett will fit nicely. It may take a lot of horsing to get the plug loose the first time. I once broke a cheap ratchet this way, twisted the square right off. The plug is nearly indestructible so don't worry about it.

The usual way to check fluid level is to open the plug and stick your pinkie down in there. Of course your truck is relatively level and on good jack stands if it needs to be jacked up at all. The fluid should be maybe 1/2 inch below the hole. If you can't feel fluid, add some, I like to use those hand pumps, beats the heck out of squeezing it out of the bottle. You add fluid til just a little dribbles out the hole(technically it should be below, but the dribble is foolproof.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson
