A4LD thrust bearings
Well, i finished a rebuild of the tranny in my exploder last week... I drove it for about 150 miles, then it didn't want to shift into 3rd gear or od, and 1st and rev felt like they were shuddering. so i pulled the pan back off, and there was a pile of metal in the bottom of the pan (
) anyway, I got real pissed off and yanked the tranny out in 2 hours (last time it took me 7, stupid manifold bolts... tonight i took it apart and everything was alright until i got to the assembly that holds the reverse high, forward clutch, and intermediate band. I took that apart and the thrust washer that goes inbetween the planetary and sun gears was totally chewed up... took out the whole planetary, clutches,gears, almost everything execpt the forward clutch... I can't figure out why this happened... anybody have an insight???
ps... if you want to buy a good explorer, without a transmission let me know PLEASE
