Well, it turns out it is indeed a fresh 390 FE,thanks for the information. The block code comes back to a 1968 ford T-bird,4V 390 GT.The head code comes back as 1970-71 429 SCJ police. And I was wondering why im doin 65 when i finally hit fourth gear in this 6400 lb monster...

429 heads don't fit FE's. - It is a LIMA motor.

428 maybe?

Quick question, how many bolts holding down the valve covers? That'll tell what engine family right away.

It's a 429 Thunder Jet, the 9425 # is for the intake manifold. Check out this site and the links for more info on casting #'s. Merry Christmas!

as bb stated the 9425 # is the intake manifold.

I suggest that if the 429-460 forum can't help try

www.corral.net
www.clubcobra.com
www.stangnet.com

I'll try to did out a book and look some numbers up, but if they are anything like FE's the casting numbers are nearly meaningless....................................... .........

C9VE-A are 1968-1972 429-460 heads. Non high performance. 2.09x1.65 valves and 2.18x1.87I / 1.99x1.30E port sizes.

The book says you need to pull the pan to see if it is a 2 bolt or 4 bolt block. D0OE-B is the only High Performance block listed, it is a 70-71 429CJ, SCJ, PI block.

If the thing has an aluminum tag with numbers bolted to the intake, that would help.

The intake number isn't in the book, but it is not either of the two high performance ones listed.

Does it have a Rochester or a Holley/Autolite pattern?

All of this is according to "Ford High Performance Parts Interchange" by George Reid.
