69 F-250 4X4 MOTOR SWAP

JUST BOUGHT A '69 F-250, HAVE HAD NUMEROUS '73 TO '79s, AND BRONCO'S, BIG AND SMALL, SO I AM LOOKING FOR INFO ON THE BUILD OF THIS TRUCK. THE 360 IS VERY TIRED AND WANT TO GO BIG BLOCK REPLACEMENT, THIS IS EASY ON THE 73-79s, WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ON THE '69? I WILL KEEP THE FOUR SPEED THAT IT HAS, WITH A REBUID ON IT (POPS OUT OF THIRD GEAR). PLEASE TELL ME THE TURN RADIUS CAN BE BETTER (THE QUEEN MARY TURNS TIGHTER THAN THIS TRUCK!!!) IS THERE A BETTER STEERING BOX? OR IS THIS ONE ADEQUATE FOR 35" TO 38" TIRES.
THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL INPUT, I HAVE BEEN VISITING THE SITE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND HAVE SEEN A LOT OF POSITIVE AND HELPFUL FEEDBACK

The easiest build would be to have tour 360 rebuilt to a 390, bored .060 would put you around 400 c.i. If you are talking 460 then you will need to scrounge up a bellhousing and spacerplate from a 351m-400. If it is a 2wd, I think the engine frame towers from a 73-79 460 will work.
The turn radius can be helped a little by installing a disc brake front from a newer model.
If you have power steering the box you have should be fine,(2wd) unless you have the Bendix box. It has been reported that they aren't as strong as the later and much more plentiful saginaw type. A 69 could have had either.
If you have a 4wd they never came with power steering but if you do asearch here you will find a couple god threads that explain how do do the swap. Only a young, strong man would want to drive one of the highboy 4x4s with big tires and no power steering. If you don't have to do any parking or tight low speed manuevers, you might get by. When I was young, in my 20s, I drove a 69 highboy for several years with no P/S and thought nothing of it. I also had a 69 F=350 with a Napco conversion that had no P/S but it was a real brute and bump steered so bad it would almost rip your hands off.

THIS TRUCK IS A 4X4 HIGH BOY, I DID NOT KNOW THAT THEY DID'NT HAVE POWER STEERING AS AN OPTION, SO THIS TRUCK MUST HAVE HAD A CONVERSION DONE AT SOME POINT IN TIME.
CAN YOU BOLT ON DISC BRAKES FROM A LATE 70'S TO THE 69 AXLES? THIS IS ONE REASON I HAVEN'T BUILT THE EARLIER TRUCKS, BUT REALLY LIKE THE LINES AND LOOK OF THEM.
I'LL MEASURE THE FRAME RAIL WIDTH AND SEE IF THE 70'S TOWERS WILL SPACE OUT CORRECTLY FOR THE 460, THAT WAS MY INITIAL CONCERN, THEREFORE THE QUESTION. NO USE CAUSING BRAIN DAMAGE WHEN THERE ARE MANY OF YOU
OUTTHERE THAT HAVE DONE THE CONVERSION.

THANKS FOR YOUR INFORMATION.

You will need the whole axle to convert to disc brakes. Only ther 79 to mid 77 will be a bolt up but thr late 77-79 can be installed without too much grief. When they switched to disc brakes is also when they went from closed to open knuckles so even the housings are different. Your 460 2wd towers may not work. I thitnk the difference in frame width will render them unusable without modification. After market ones are available, but kind of pricey for my budget. If you have any fabrication skills, I would just modify the old ones.
Another thing you have to consider is the oil pan. The 2wd uses a front sump and the 4wd uses a rear sump, so you will have to find a rear sump pan for the 460. They can be bought new fairly reasonable but I can't remember where I saw them at. Of course you will need the corresponding oil pickup tube. This setup from a newer (80s) 460 4x4 may work, but I am just speculating.

THANKS - willowbilly3, ALL OF THE LATE 70'S STUFF I'VE BUILT WERE 4X4'S SO I HAVE A GOOD RESERVE OF AXLES AND PARTS, I WAS NOT SURE IF THE MOUNTING PADS WOULD BE THE SAME, BETWEEN THE YEARS. I WILL BE DOING A LOT OF SWAPPING OF PARTS, AND NEEDED FEEDBACK ON THIS, THIS AXLE SWAP SHOULD ALSO FIX THE TURN RADIUS ISSUE. CAN I ALSO SWAP IN A LATE 70'S POWER STEERING BOX? I'LL MOUNT AN AGR PUMP IF THIS IS THE CASE AND THE BIGGER TIRES WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP

Do a search for the power steering swap. It has been covered by others and I think someone even posted pictures in their gallery.

Please refrain from using all caps. It signifies yelling.
