Post major seat problems

Hi Everyone,

I have a 1990 Bronco with a major seat problem, the seatback won't stay upright, I read some past posts and took a look at the bolts that keep it up and found that the whole metal assembly (the whole pan thing that everything is connected to)was broken right in front of where the reclining mechanism is. The truck is undrivable currently.

Is this part available anywhere? The upholstery is in great shape and I really want to keep the seats stock (I hate aftermarket seats) not to mention they cost a ton

thanks for your help

Merry Christmas

Unfortunately, late 80's-early 90's seat frames were not one of the big blue machine's strong points.

Post some pics of the exact piece that is broken. Are they captain's chairs? I just installed some '90 Escort GT seats in my Bronco, and still have the originals. (Funny, I almost put them out to the curb yetserday, and thought....hmmmmm...better hang on to these a little bit longer; Don't know why really.) I may be able to send you the part you need.

Looking at it some more I think some other stuff is broken, something in the seat back and the reclining mechanism has something wrong. I think I might need a whole new seat.

Anyone know where I can get a new seat, usually junkyard seats aren't very good.

Geezer,

I don't have a way to put pictures on it, the part I need is what the rail mechanism connects to the seat, there are four bolts that connect the rails to this piece, and the upholstery is connected to this piece as well with plastic clips. The reclinging mechanism also connects to this piece. It is the frame for the bottom coushion.

Also my dad says there is a plate in the seatback that is broken. Can't really tear the seat apart in case for some reason stuck driving the truck.

this is the best I can describe it. sorry

thanks a bunch for your help

Hi Ellensburgpilot: I recently had the same problem and yes the part is available from Ford. It costs about two dollars. It is a small bolt and you will need a #45 Torx socket to replace it. If the bolt is broken off in the nut then it can be a real hassle to get out. I tried to take it out with a very small chisel ane the round nut inside broke off. It is just spot welded on. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
