trash collection

Do the people that pick up your trash ever leave stuff behind? They came around here today and now there is trash blowing down the street, and nobody will pick it up.

Well, I live in a town house complex and they are supposed to come once a week. Well, they finally came today after the dumpster was soooo full stuff was falling out! I didn't even think they were gonna come and thought "Oh great wait until after Christmas, that's smart!" I am very thankful they came today or there would have been wrapping paper everywhere!

Around my neck of the woods they use those special trash cans that can be picked up and dumped into the truck with a lift mechanism. There is no mess, but it bugs the hell outta me that they HAVE to throw the trash can on the ground rather than leave it upright like they found it.

Every monday I get home from work and have to move my trash cans off the driveway so I can pull in. I have to park the truck in the street, get out, and move the cans. Of all the places they could throw them, this requires the most work on my part!! (Well, maybe not EVERY monday )

The robotrashman is great except that I can't understand why, at least 75% of the time, they throw the trash can on the ground rather than just leave it standing, and preferably with the lid closed so it doesn't fill with rain and snow. On the flip side, I really like being able to throw out used oil/filters, sheetrock, batteries, paint, cinder blocks, and just about anything else that's nasty. NEVER worry too much about the weight restriction on the can either; trust me, the worst that happens is a wheel breaks and if that happens just call them and they come to your house and fix it. Not to worry about the planet either; we burn the stuff and then they make electricty (and SELL it back to us, of course) from the heat (waste-to-energy) and they got some dandy scrubbers in the stacks.

I try to look at the situation from the "Tired Eye of the Trash Guy"....I don't try to pack my plastic sacks as completely full as is possible. But, I do tie them very titely as i don't won't him taking an inventory everytime he picks up my trash. We cannot include things like paint, old batteries, oil and filters, etc. But if I have an old filter from my lawnmower I'll try to bury it in the middle of the sack in a plastic bag that will not leak. In my area of Texas we have a thing called "a Countywide cleanup" twice ayear. They will take just about anything except batteries with acid and paint cans with wet paint inside. This is really great because it has really removed the incentive of the poor folks to haul their old couch and mattress out on a Rural road and just kick them off into a Ditch. It is really a very beneficial thing for all parties concerned. .s.kuteman

Maybe you've got a lazy robo-trashtruck driver? Our is always upright, lid closed, in the same exact spot I had put it out in. Only time it's ever on the ground is during REALLY high winds.

This city has one of the best trash removal, recycling programs I ever saw.Regular trash is picked up on Friday, cans are returned to the same place with lids on.
We are not allowed any burning...all yard waste is put on the curb
and picked up every two weeks. They even rake the area after
loading branches, leaves etc.
Junk removal is also scheduled every two weeks. They will take
couches table metal etc.
The items they won't take are tires, batteries and anything with freon....however there is a recycling center that will accept
these items for free.
