Help! windshield wiper/dome light problem
I have a problem where occasionally (with no rhyme or reason as to when) I lose my dome light and windshield wipers. these 2 things no longer work for a random period of time. I can hear a "switching like" sound from in front of me (inside the dash?) each time I lose them or they come back on. Anyone heard of this one or have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
I found the windshield had a very small drip above
the steering wheel only one or two drops every few
minutes it was hard to see. The clicking sound in mine
was the turn signal flasher it's mounted under the dash
to the right of the driver. the water was going into the column
and shorting things to each other when it dryed out everything worked fine again. I got a tube of sylicone and ran down
the top bead of the winshield, I have'nt had any more trouble
with it.
hope that helps
Good luck, Muff

Like muff said you quite likely have some water under the dash from the windshield. It can get into the fuse box or the GEM (Generic Electronic Module) and cause the problems you;ve described. The GEM controls the wipers, dome lights, 4x4 operation etc.
I think you might be right. The problem quit for several days. Then after a night of rain and the truck outside the problem returned. I'm going to put the sylicone on and see what happens.
