Before you jump to the conclusion that somethings wrong, maybe driving conditions are the reason you get poor mileage.
I used to have a 1990 F150 regular cab, short bed, 5spd, 5.0 4x4 truck. With it I never got much over 10mpg around town. Then I had a very early 99 F350 SC LWB 4x4 V10 4.30 auto truck that only got about 9 around town. My current truck dips into the 8's for mileage. All these figures are around town with no load. Why so low? My around town is a lot of to/from work (5.5 miles each way) with a lot of hills/stop signs/traffic signals. Then they sell oxygenated gas around here for much of the year to reduce emmissions, but it lowers your mileage. And to top it off, I rarely get beat leaving a stop light when it turns green. I just love to feel that v10/4.30 gear power!
Best I've ever seen was about 13.5 for all highway driving at an average of 55mph.

I see you are in Alaska, I'm in MN and the cold plays havock with everything I've got. One thing that helps TONS is synthetic in ALL the gear boxes. That 90 weight stuff will kill ya! Maybe already in it, but it sure won't hurt to check.
Sorry Guys no news yet. Been working odd shift but have all intentions on taking it in on monday! I will keep you posted! Heres some of the answers to the other questions (If I can remember them all) Cold-yes, Elevation-sea level, 89 octane but some one did bring up the oxygenated unlead which we run up here for most of the year also (good thinkin)! Thanks for all the suggestions
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Nov-02 AT 03:21 PM (EST)]>In heat of Summer, I get 12.2 mpg, and in Winter about 11.

You will also get more power when the gas is "cold" because
more gas will get in the cylinder, because it is "smaller when it is cold.
Years ago when I use to drag race, we would make about a 10ft coil of copper gas line, and run it through a big bucket filled with "ice" to shrink the gas, there for more gas would get in the cylinder, giving us more power. ( so buy your gas on a real cold day and you will get more gas for the $$$$)
Just something to think about...

They dealership said that my battery had come unhooked and that that was my problem but that is the first thing I checked and nothing was wrong with it! I have been a shadetree mech. for a long time now and I wouldnt have had my truck towed to the dealership for a disconnected battery! Sorry Im venting, the dealership where I take my truck is horrible and I know that that is not the problem!
