I had been reading late in 02 and early in 03 that a number of the 6.0 with 6-speeds were dogs in first gear. Has Ford got this problem figured out yet?
Those with 6.0l and 6-speeds...do you like them? ...how do the compare to 6-speed with 7.3l?
Good question, I was not aware there might be problems with the 6-speed. I'm planning on ordering this 6-speed manual this spring so I hope we here good things in this thread.
The problem lies in the fact that there is no torque converter to let the engine rev up without slipping the clutch or using a lower gear. Under 1200rpm or so because of pollution requirements of the engine not being allowed to emit black smoke and because there is not much turbo boost down there, only a limited amount of fuel can be fed to the engine limiting power down there.
Don't know of anyone with a '04 engine 6 speed combo to report to us if it's been improved.
My daughter has no problems with ours and if she is pulling a trailer she just uses low to get started, no big deal. It does have gobs of clutch engagement torque so you won't stall it but if you idle off with the clutch don't expect too much until about 1200rpm then hold on and be careful to not over rev it (thank God for the rev limiter).
