Back on the subject of my transmission. I was told by the dealer Mech that my tranny was trashed and I need to replace it. So last weekend I decided to test it and I hooked on my 3400# trailer and loaded 6000# of coal in it and pulled a 6% grade for 13 miles at an elevation of 8000ft @ 65 MPH. I had no slippage that I could feel, but when I arrived at my destination and slow down, the tranny down shifted between 1st and 2nd by itself and there was a clicking noise coming from under the drivers side of the truck. It did this a couple of times and now I have to let off the pedal to make it shift while accelerating. It is fine at upper speeds but taking off is a problem, has any one else experienced this problem? I am having diagnostic's ran it today to see if it is a diffrent problem, but I am sure they will tell me the same thing. Buy new!
Hows the fluid? clean, smelly, burnt. Valving problems are fixable but if its burnt up it will have to be rebuilt...If the fluid is good you may have a chance to save it.
*I changed it last week before I made the trip. It did smell burnt, but the color was still good. After the dealer told me the tranny was toast and it would not do any good to change the oil, I changed it anyway.

I was refering to the transmission shop telling me something like it's just the electronics on the shifting.......instead of you need a new transmission.

I encountered the clicking noise back in November, I hope its not the same clicking noise because about 600 miles later my trany terminated itself. It wasn't the discs either, it was all mechanical, little pieces-lots of them.
Well at least you know about it, I was up north hunting when it went bye-bye. I was stranded up there for an extra week and came home $2,700 poorer. It definatly would be a lot cheeper if it dosen't reduce itself to rubble before its fixed.
Yea, I got almost the whole season in- it blew two days before the season was over, but it ain't fun sitting in a hotel room for five days in Marquette, waiting on the Ford dealer. At least they gave me a free loaner-so I could get around.
Gotta love a guy who "tests" his tranny by loading it down with 9400 lbs and drags it up hill at 65 MPH. Now thats one way to do it. Next time take your dealer mechanic w/ you Then let him tell you it's shot!
