What was the last year Ford had the ignition switch on the dash? I am in the process of converting my 66 to power steering and wanted to just put in a later model column, but I do not want to have the key on it. I need one with an auto shifter if that makes a difference.
73 up collum requires some mods in the mounting area. on this conversion i drill the mount spot welds and then use the 65 to 72 mount welded to the tube. eliminates washers and such and has a cleaner look. Also the tube cover from a mid 80s ford van does nice for a cover down to the dash as it just is trimmed to size and snaps on.
I don't want to argue and tell me if i am wrong but I looked for interior pictures in the gallary and from what I have seen the key went to the column in 76. Was this just in the 100's? was it an option? Or like typical Ford did they just used what they had, so there is no real year for the switch?
If you are interested in shortening your 66 column, drop me an email. I just put power discs and power steering on my 66. I used the parts from a 79, spindles, brake lines, steering sector, steering column shaft, steering linkage etc.
The Last Production Year for Ignition switch in the dash was 1979.
Key in column appeared with 1980 production models.
Some people add "tilt Columns" from lots of other vehicles which had keys in column. But as far as FoMoCo F Series goes key was in dash even in F Series tilt columns (production 77-79). Definitely 1980 was the year all that changed changed.. .. ..
