Live in ft.worth TX and the lowest it has been in the morn. is about 27. Usually gets to the 60's in the day. Is it normal for my 03 6.0 to be real sluggish and lack power for the 1st 3 or 4 miles and is that part of what the dec. flash is fixing? No problems if it stays above 45 or so. Also noticed surging every now and again at the stop lights. Any help is greatly appreciated and i love my 1st ford.
I don't think you really want to use all 325 HP in the first few miles anyway; if you need it, let it warm up a bit before nailing it. I am very light on the accelerator as I leave for work in the morning, just above idle going through the subdivision, so wouldn’t even know if it was low on power. I accelerate onto the highway at a slow to normal pace after only a mile or so, and don’t seem to have any problems. I usually have heat after a few miles, but my garage is about 40-50 degrees even when it is –10 outside (yes, I’ve already seen that this year). If you pour the coals to it when it is cold, you are accelerating wear, and may shorten engine life. In addition, there may be more contaminants in your oil since the pistons have not reached operating temperature and are not yet properly sealing. I don’t have the engineering specs of this engine, so have no hard data on any of that- it is all IMHO. -
as far as the flash, if your engine is cold you will not build full power. flash will fix surge but at what cost? mpg (possibly) If it's
not bothering you that bad let it go until the spring flash is out...
Thanks a million to Tekrep and emtabmm, but i never pour the coals to it in the 1st 3 or 4 miles until i have to merge onto a tricky highway entrance and it would be real nice to have alittle less hesitation while doin so.Seems to take alittle longer than normal to finally come up to full power. I will wait tii the spring flash andy. Thanks again.
Are you letting it warm up before you start driving? With mine if I let it warm up for about 3-5 minutes I notice a change in idle (idle picks up). I just take this as the truck is now ready to rumble.
