3 valve 5.4 in super duty?
I was looking at a super duty the other day with a 5.4 liter, and the salesman claimed it had the new engine in it. i didnt question it becuase i wasnt really interested in the 5.4, i wanted the diesel. Been thinking about getting a truck sooner then planned, and teh 5.4 makes the price sound alot nicer. I then noticed form a post on here a little while ago about the new 5.4 onlyin the 150, and was wondering if and when the 3 valve 5.4 would be going into the super duty. It seems as though the new one has a whole lot more power ~300 hp vs 360, and 350 lb ft vs ~300 .. with 80percent power at 1000 rpm. Thats a noticible difference. If i get the smaller engine, i cant have it be much weaker then my import fan buddy who is getting a nissan titan. thanks for any info/help here.

If Ford continues with their actions of the past, the Super Duty will get the 3-valve 5.4L in '05. Seems the SD runs about a year behind the F150 in getting new stuff.
As for the 5.4 (even a 3-valve one) in a Super Duty vs the Nissan Titan, remember that the SD will have about 2000 lbs more weight to move around- even when empty!

The 2003 and up do have the "new" engine, although not the "new" 3-valve. It has the stiffer block of the 3v and also the new redesigned heads with 8 spark plug threads instead of the 4 in the old head. Supposedly the new block is quieter and the new head should fix the spark plug blowouts.

hmm, thanks for the info guys. Looks like i'll h ave to be getting the v-10 or still waiting to save up for the diesel then. cant have any of this nissan having more power business going around. i am sure a tug of war is going to result at some point, and i am pretty sure the stout dana 60/sterling shall prevail over a pair of modified dana 44's.
